About: The approach for a responsive website for Michaels begins with the mobile site where new projects for mobile are created using a new look and feel, and created on the standard web platform. Media queries are used to format content and features for the smaller mobile screen, while routing non-mobile users to the current standard website. In this example, users are presented with a signup form for receiving notifications via email or SMS. Users arrive at the form via the current mobile website, email (when viewed on their mobile device) or by scanning a QR code on inshore signage.

Type: Process Writing and Support Documentation

About: To illustrate how Michaels Stores, Inc. can include User Experience design into their existing waterfall process, a new process was created based loosely on Lean UX and borrowing from an Agile team approach to increase collaboration, create products iteratively and streamline their overall project process. Initial documentation was created to illustrate these processes for use in their environment within their existing team structure.

Type: User Experience Design – My Account Redesign

About: AAdvantage and Marketing set user-centric goals for a new My Account section of the AA.com website. Taking the results from interviews with actual Executive Platinum members, usage analytics and small test user testing, objectives for the new site were created, and problems with the existing site were identified. User Personas, user scenarios, low-fidelity wireframes, whiteboard sessions and high fidelity wireframes were created as part of a prototype to move the iterative build forward while illustrating and user testing it’s functionality.

Flight Status Notifications – AA.com

Type: User Flow – Flight Status Notifications

About: As part of the redesign for Flight Status Notifications (FSN) and it’s better inclusion into the checkout path for reservations, this user flow was created to illustrate how to include the steps required for FSN as a stand alone item, from a modal window from within the checkout path as well as how the same interfaces would be used for managing existing notifications.

About: The majority of wireframing work for AA.com was limited to very low fidelity wireframes, whiteboard sessions and user flows. Most of the high fidelity work was done later in the process, or as part of prototyping. This is an example of a  time when a more complicated new page made use of a higher fidelity wireframe, and it’s resulting final page design.
